Auckland University Mechanical Laboratories Relocation and Upgrade

Auckland University Mechanical Laboratories Relocation and Upgrade

SPIIND was contracted by Auckland University to relocate all its Thermodynamics, Thermo, Thermofluids and other Mechanical Laboratories spread across Auckland and to consolidate these all into new premises at Newmarket in Auckland. The scope of works included relocating a wide range of test equipment including Dynamometers, Boiler, Compressors, Earthquake Simulator, Gantry Cranes, Water Flumes and various test cells. The largest piece of equipment, a 45m long glass sided Water Flume was along with other flumes and equipment completely refurbished and upgraded to current seismic and electrical standards.

SPIIND has extensive experience working with a number of Fonterra plants both inside Red Line and outside with full time staff working on sites providing day to day maintenance and shutdown support, the crews being supplemented with additional staff as required for projects and large shutdowns.

Royal New Zealand Navy Waterside Training Barge Installation

Royal New Zealand Navy Waterside Training Barge Installation

Following on from Phase 1 of this project, the Dryside Installation, SPIIND has been contracted to build and install Phase 2 a water based 145 Tonne 32m x 9m barge and mooring structures, along with the electrical systems design and installation. The barge will be connected to the land by a significant mooring truss structure and accessed by a significant 35 metre long aluminium gangway. 

Evolutions on board the barge include an Accomodation Ladder, Hiab Crane, Vestdavit to launch and recover RHIB's, Swimmer of the Watch and Life Raft Capsule Launcher.

NZDF Special Air Services (SAS) Boeing 777 Anti Terrorism Trainer

SPIIND was contracted to design and build a full size Boeing 777 counter terrorism or anti-terrorism trainer integrating Boeing parts, as necessary, to deliver a real life replica aircraft forward fuselage module robust enough to fulfil the specified training needs of the SAS on board and also integrated with other training evolutions within the attached building.

On board systems include communications, air/smoke extraction and ventilation, lighting and CCTV.

Royal New Zealand Navy Dryside Training Facility Build

SPIIND was contracted by Lockheed Martin to design and build a land based Seamanship Training Facility for the Royal New Zealand Navy, comprising of a series of mock ups replicating both the Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPV) and Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) and a range of evolutions carried out on those ships. Evolutions include a fully operational anchor (coming to buoy, haul and veer, let go and recovery), Refueling at Sea (RAS), Berthing, Working at Heights and Towing. Designed to meet 'As Low As Reasonably Possible' (ALARP) standards, SPIIND received the NZDF award for Safety in 2017 out of 3500 contractors for this project design and delivery.

BOC Marsden Point CO2 Plant Build

BOC Marsden Point CO2 Plant Build

SPIIND was contracted by BOC to build their new CO2 plant which collects CO2, a by product from the adjacent Refinery for distribution around New Zealand. SPIIND's scope included erection and commissioning of all plant and equipment much of which was imported from overseas and fabrication of all pipework including connections to the Refinery itself. 

Since its original build SPIIND continues to carry out all maintenance on site including all I&E and mechanical works.
